http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/03/26/hinckley.today/index.html# i found this article to be very interesting because i was unaware of the actual circumstances of the Reagan assassination attempt about 30 years ago. It is an article on CNN website under the title "justice" section. It was bought to my attention that the man who tried to kill president Reagan is about to be released from a mental hospital and will soon be free. I was also unaware that he never did any hard time and got a 30 year sentence to a mental hospital because his lawyers pleaded the "insanity" card. I believe anyone who tries to kill anyone intentionally is insane anyway. Whether or not he clinically was insane i suppose we will never know. He certainly convinced a judge and jury that he was insane and the court favored in his plead. To try and kill the president and play the insane card and win is very hard to do. I was not surprised to see a connection in an Advertisement on the bottom right hand corner of this article called http://www.lawyers.com/ which promotes lawyers, attorneys, and law firms. I soon realized that lawyers.com very well may have paid for this AD space. It makes people want to question if there is always a motive behind decent journalism and does there always have to be some kind of special interest and kickbacks to lobbyist, lawyers, big companies and so on? I soon realized that lawyers.com was advertised under every news article under the justice section of CNN. This section of CNN has become a place not only where one who is interested in the news to read articles rather it has also become a place for people who are interested in finding a source for a good attorney because i would imagine that only the most highly regarded lawyers have the money to advertise on a well know news outlet.
I also saw the same website lawyers.com advertised on www.craigslist.com. It was listed under the Legal section which did not surprise me. What surprised me is it was listed under the discussion forum "divorce". The conversation forums under craigslist are supposed to be for discussion only not necessarily for advertisements or purchasing items. This made me feel it was a lot like the CNN article where people were supposed to go there just to read the news and get decent journalism without any other agenda like selling lawyers. Advertising is everywhere now and it cant be avoided. You can find it from credible news outlets to simple discussion forums on craigslist.com .The connection i am making between CNN and craigslist is there is the same motive behind their discussion forums and news articles and that is simply to promote and make money from big companies that are willing to spend alot of money to advertise. CNN will always have a justice section for that reason alone just like craigslist will have discussion forums on divorce and other lawyer related matter.
